"New for LightWave 3D! LightWave 64-bit software is now shipping.
Please note: It is necessary to have a 64-bit system, with a
Windows 64-bit Operating system, to use the LightWave 64-bit
software. You can run the 32-bit LightWave on a 64-bit system,
but the software will not gain the advantages of the 64-bit
system.
Major Updates
-------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------
New in version 8.5:
Layout:
GLSL Hardware Shader
Uses the hardware renderer in OpenGL 2.0 video cards to display
many of the render functions in real-time; lights, light
falloffs, blending images on surfaces, per-pixel lighting
are available in real-time, with an option to turn this feature
on and off. Procedurals are also viewable in the OpenGl windows
now.
This is the first phase of the GLSL Hardware Shader. The following
procedurals and gradients are currently available for viewing
in the OpenGL viewports:
Gradients:
Previous Layer
Slope
Incidence Angle
Light Incidence
Distance to Camera
Distance to Object
X Distance to Object
Y Distance to Object
Z Distance to Object
Distance to Pivot Point
X Distance to Pivot Point
Y Distance to Pivot Point
Z Distance to Pivot Point
Procedurals:
Value
Brick
Ripples
Ripples2
Grid
Honeycomb
Dots
Underwater
Bumparray
Marble
Wood
Checkerboard
Turbulence
Smoky1
Smoky2
Smoky3
FBM
Dynamics
Improved for accuracy, including interaction with collision
planes. A new algorithm also allows large dynamic scenes to load
up to 10x faster. A new window shows the progress of dynamics
calculations.
Dynamics will also remember the last saved directory which was baked
into. This helps by not forcing you to redirect each bake in a
project which has a separate bake directory.
Texture Editor
The Blending Mode menu has had 10 new blending modes added. Each of
these new blending modes are designed to match its Photoshop
counterpart.
Modeler:
Multishift
Allows multiple shifts in a single edit with a history profile
that can be saved and applied to other meshes.
Parts to Surfaces
Scans each polygon and creates a new surface for each part name
that is found then assigns that part the new surface.
Layout & Modeler:
78 new Hotkey selections now available. You can now us
Alt+Letter, Shift+Alt+Letter, and Shift+Ctrl+Letter combinations.
