I can think of a few, especially L.A. Confidential and Jaws.
L.A. Confidential is an incredibly convoluted story, full of subplots that try to get to the point but only drag it out. The film simplifies it as much as possible.
Jaws has pointless subplots that affect the plot... but only serve to highlight how unlikable each character is. In the book, frankly, everyone is terrible.
