Well, the biggest advantage of the new version is definately the raycaster. Vray uses a smart technique to cache only the polygons that are really needed. This makes it possible to render "unlimited Polygons". With the new Raycaster there are some things that found in their way into vray. Because you couldn't load a 20mil Polygon Object in max - there's the Proxy Object trick. As you may see a lowres version of the heavy mesh in max, Vray takes the Fullres version and renders it via the raycaster.
Another new feature is VrayFur, a simple modifier like Vray-displacement that creates many many geometry hairstrains on your object (millions of polygons) but renders quite fast because the hair is created at rendertime. There are some new things in the Imap section as well. The image mode right now is replaced by a pseudo Bucket mode - the difference is that Vray renders buckets but it can stitch them together to a full Imap which you can save and reload if you want. This is a step in the direction of distributed Imap computing - this doesn't work in this testbuild though.
Hmmm... Here and there are some small things. Better support for transparent materials with different IOR's [http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=29928#29928] (You may know that it required some tricks to get a good rendering of Liquid in a glass before this new version)
A new VrayPlane reaching the Horizon. Brazil has something similar but the VrayPlane is not a render setting but an actual Obect - that means you combine more than one in different angles... well, not thaaat spectacular though but it can be handy. The Manual got more complete again.
Finally Vray has a new license system.
In this version it's not yet a flowting license but it should become one in the final build.
Вобщем все написано. Уже сломали, щас вот тестят на предмет чегонить еще запрятанного внутри кода, чтоб не засветить щедрого юзера
Stay tuned !
