Smart Catalog offers a powerful solution to link information from your data sources,
either a database, data file or XML file, to your InDesign document.
Smart Catalog supports linking images, text frames and even arbitrary text ranges
allowing great flexibility. Once your catalog is laid out, a single click will update
your InDesign document with the latest information from the database or data file.
Layout Assistance
Smart Catalog also assists with the layout of your catalog. Image options can be set to
scale and position images correctly within the frame, price formats to control the
appearance of prices and numbers. Special support is offered for tables to quickly fill
tables with information from your data source.
Full Control
Smart Catalog offers a lot of control over the update process for efficient updates
without problems. Fields can either be updated one by one or the entire document can be
updated with a single click.
Modularity
Smart Catalog is offered as a number of modules to ensure you only pay for what you
need. The core of Smart Catalog is the attractively-priced Smart Catalog Light that
offers the basic linking (to data files) and layout features. Any of the following
packages can be added for additional functionality:
ODBC Module
Link to any ODBC compliant database like SQL server, FileMaker, Sybase and Oracle
introducing SQL power to Smart Catalog.
XML Module
Use the structure and flexibility of XML to build your catalog with the ability to link
to any XML file.
Robot Module
Create links to your data and control the update process via scripting to automate your
catalog production.
Layout Module
Powerful ‘product block’ functionality with the Smart Layout plug-in. A perfect
time-saver that allows you to create template product blocks with multiple text and
image items and store these product blocks in a library.
When laying out your catalog, drag a product block from the library, assign the correct
SKU and all elements of the product block will be linked to the correct fields of the
right product.
Smart Catalog Pro
Smart Catalog Pro is a cost-effective bundle including the base Light version and the
modules ,ODBC, XML, Robot and Layout.
Extensible
Smart Catalog is extensible via an SDK (Software Developer Kit) which allows
customization and implementation of additional data sources. WoodWing also offers
development services for this.
Availability
Smart Catalog Light and the Layout module are shipping, the other modules and the Pro
version will following during 2003.
This product requires Adobe InDesign v2.x and is available for Macintosh (MacOS 9.x,
