В хелпе говорится

Set up a master machine with mental ray for Maya or mental ray for Maya Satellite

First, create a file called maya.rayhosts.
maya.rayhosts file format

Вопрос где нужно создавать этот файл? как какое расширение у него должно быть? и не совсем понял что должно находится внутри этого файла.

maya.rayhosts содержит список хостов слейвов вида Petya-PC:123, где 123 - это открытый порт, можно писать и IP вместо имени (вообще в хелпе это есть, надо искать лучше). Этот файл я помещал в папку документов, где он находился рендером. В хелпе указаны и другие пути.

А где порт компьютера смотрится?

Place the file in one of the following locations:

* Place a file called .rayhosts in the home directory of the current machine. On Linux and Mac OS X the home directory is specified by the $HOME environment variable. On Windows machines, it is specified by %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH% (on most machines, this is C:\).

* Place a file called .rayhosts in the current directory, for example, from where the render will be invoked. A .rayhosts file in the current directory overrides one in the machine's home directory.

Что то не могу понять розместить этот файл maya.rayhosts на диске С: ? или ему нжуно созадть эту переменну4ю? %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH%

и второй пункт что то не вьехал совсем.
