This piece of work is inspired by observation of the unique creatures that live next to us, the ants. An incredible sharpness and work eurhythmy of these insects was in the heart of a concept for this watch.
The ANTS, How Do They Work?
Ferromagnetic Chips are moving freely between a transparent Glass and a silken Hour-Plate. Being part of the Watch Mechanism, the miniature electric Magnets are activated with a push of a Button on the Body. A Microprocessor is keeping time. It is also Microprocessor that activates certain magnets, the combination of which is drawing digits of current time with ferromagnetic Chips.
After the Button is pushed, the “time creation” process is slow enough to be observed. The Chips can reach their position to become part of the digits either in 3 or 4 “waves of ants” from the edge towards the center, or coming out as an ink from a pen writing the digits, or developing themselves on a clear Hour-Plate or from a chaos of Chips – ants – moving in all directions.
The ANTS, Where Do They Live?
A Body of the watch is attached to side steel plates by shock-absorbing spring creating an additional “level of freedom”. The watch is worn on a leather wristlet.
The ANTS, The Colony Mind
Besides the standard function of time-keeping, the Microprocessor features options of font style and visual effects.
The watch has a distinguished retro-style design to accent the personality of the individual who owns it.
The ANTS. Surely they will be around in 150 years. Maybe they’ll even become a top-sale watch!
